I’d argue if Terrifier is torture porn so is The Strangers, or Halloween 2 (Rob Zombie version), The Collector.
Just because a movie has gore and a cynical dread of impending said gore does not make it torture porn. Per a post yesterday, an argument on whether or not Terrifier is torture porn. That being said, I think some people take the word torture porn too far. The same fans trying to write off torture porn and who shame other fans for enjoying them are just modern day Siskel and Eberts. As the genre evolved the kills became more and more excessive and grotesque as filmmakers continually tried to one up each other and satiate an audience growing increasingly desensitized to on screen violence. Those are all the same reasons people like Siskel and Ebert HATED slasher films and why organizations picketed their release and tried to shame actors out of performing in them. I'm a little surprised at the amount of hate shown toward "torture porn" on this sub as I've always viewed such films as the natural evolution of the slasher flick.
